When it rains it pours: despite not many concerts this summer to get excited about, I’ve found myself in the middle of a pretty dense run of amazing shows this month. So far I’ve seen Stryper @ the Reverb Sunday night, Thursday night I caught Sufjan Stevens at Lee’s Palace here in Toronto, Sunday night I’ll check out Andrew WK doing his experimental solo piano thing at the music gallery, then Wednesday night Daredevil Christopher Wright is back in town at Free Times Cafe. And there’s still Dave Bazan and more to come! (Even Transiberian Orchestra!)

This week’s podcast includes: Ryan Dahle, Dan Mangan, Sea Wolf, Yukon Blonde, Ox, Taken by Trees, Shannon Stephens, Racoon Bandit and Schomberg Fair.

In the photo there, that’s Andrew WK going a little incognito (I think on my old music blog I described him as looking like “my uncle”) at a “To Live and Shave in LA” show at Sneaky Dees a couple years ago. His piano playing was phenomenal, but the rest of the band? Not so much. Hopefully, you enjoy this week’s podcast more than I did that show. Artists featured this week include Vic Chesnutt, DM Stith, Rain Machine, Final Fantasy, Rural Alberta Advantage, Twilight Sad, Andrew WK and Dave Bazan.

This week’s podcast is a little more uptempo for the most part, with one sprawling musical oddessy trapped in the middle of it. Again, I can’t say enough how excited I am that the Paper Cranes are back and I look forward to listening to “Chivalry’s Dead” over and over and over again in the near future.

Also, a special shout out to Chino Locos, and their amazing burritos. My “Sweet” burrito packed with noodles gave me the power to put this one together Thursday night. Must make more frequent trips.
