This week’s podcast continues our theme of Christmas music… only instead of weird, we are going depressing. Sort of a farewell to this mental state if you will. Featuring music by Pedro the Lion, Ian McGlynn, Marvin Gaye, Lou Rawls, Ray Charles, Feist, Sam Phillips, Silver Speakers, Eef Barzelay, My Morning Jacket, Mark Kozelek, Stephen Colbert, Guitar Slim and Jelly Belly, John Lee Hooker and Onbekende Artiest. Don’t forget to take a look at SilentTalkie.com and take a look at the awesome new “Put Yr Heart Into It” logo designed by painter (and fellow podcaster) Karim Awad.

Hey look, it’s the mannequin outside the old stocking/whatever it was store at Queen and Sherbourne. At least, that’s where it used to be. With the influx of new, hip stores in the stretch (Upsidedive, that flower store), I guess it was time to pull up and move on. I’ll still be shocked to see this intersection truly gentrified. Anyways, this week’s podcast has not theme, just some cool songs, featuring tracks by: The Diableros, The Balconies, Drive Faster, Julian Casablancas, Hot Chip & Peter Gabriel, Winter Gloves, Carl Sagan & Stephen Hawking, Graham Wright, Slow Down Molasses, Fox Jaws, Get Up Kids, Deer Tick and Spiritualized.

So, because of the many, many weddings happening in October this year, I decided to unearth a CDR from 2005 for the podcast this week. This was a wedding mix that I gave out when I got hitched, and it features music from the ceremony and reception. We really put a lot of thought into the music we wanted to use that day, especially the ceremony, because we wanted to make sure that we used music that we liked, and music that is important to us. I’m glad we did, because whenever I hear those particular songs today, I always think of those moments. Artists featured include The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bright Eyes, Neutral Milk Hotel, the Decemberists, 100 Portraits and Waterdeep, My Morning Jacket, Modest Mouse, Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie, The Cure, By Divine Right and Broken Social Scene (ouch, that is so 2005, isn’t it?).

It’s getting a little funky this week, at least for part of the podcast. Bands featured this week include: Cool Dad, The Magic, Washed Out, The Balconies, Everything All the Time, Language Arts, Chad VanGaalen, Make Your Exit and Rock Central Plaza.

Actually, before I put this post up, I just noticed that you can download Drum-and-Organ duo Cool Dad’s EP for free here. Awesome! Shame I missed their show last week at the Cameron House, and dang all if their next show is on October 2nd at the Rancho, which I’ll unfortunately be missing. Hey, maybe they’ll come and do a set in my apartment sometime this fall.
